Improve battery life on motorola q
Okay here's a blog that has nothing about my life. This is just something I want to be out there on the internet but can't bother enough to find another place to put it.
So, if you don't own a motorola Q, or don't even plan on owning one, don't bother.
The motorola Q is a cool thin Windows Mobile phone, which as of now, ships for $99 after rebates. Currently, the Q is offered by Sprint and Verizon only. Soon, they'll release a GSM version that will be picked up by all the GSM carriers.
The problem with the Q, as owners (or, should I say, returners) is the battery issue. It runs out in a day and half at most. If you do any browsing, or activesync / goodlink email, it'll be worse. I've tweaked my Q quite a bit the last week and got it to last me more than two days on a full charge, with Activesync working and emails being pushed to my phone all through 9 to 5 both days.
Now, the basic things most people do are :
1. Disable bluetooth and IR
2. Reduce the lights and screen timeout periods
3. Set the sync schedule
4. Well, there isn't much else..
But these, you must be able to find on this page.
Here's my way of getting more.
1. Go to Motorola's website here to download the new firmware for the Q for Sprint. For verizon, you have to go to the support page, select software updates and find them. Download this firmware and follow the instructions to flash the new firmware on your phone.
2. Now, install task manager from here . The reason is the inbuilt app manager on moto Q doesn't show a lot of things that are running. Now, use this tool to kill of processes. Don't kill the following. everything else needs to go :
nk.exe
filesys.exe
device.exe
telshell.exe
gwes.exe
connmgr.exe : network death if u kill
srvtrust.exe
services.exe
home.exe
cdial.exe
cprog.exe
appman.exe (if it is there)
Now, based on your needs, you might need to kill more or less programs ( something you kill will disable something. But the ones that help to be killed must be the BTTray.exe and VCallAlarm.exe programs (my guess)
3. Never turn your phone off. Shutting down and coming back on consumes a lot of power. Also, all the killed programs start up again.
Please note that the above stated are the author's personal opinion and not those of sprint - nextel, verizon or motorola. The author is not responsible for any damage resulting from following the above or any other tweaks on your phone.
